Working with Schools and Local Authorities
iCan Tutoring partners with schools and local authorities to provide specialist online tutoring for students with additional learning needs. Whether you need EOTAS provision, alternative tuition for students unable to access mainstream education, or targeted intervention to close attainment gaps, we deliver experienced, qualified, and vetted tutors who get results.
Supporting local authorities to meet their Section 19 duty
Under Section 19 of the Education Act 1996, local authorities have a duty to arrange suitable education for children of compulsory school age who would not otherwise receive it, whether through illness, exclusion, or other circumstances. The Department for Education’s 2025 statutory guidance confirms this provision can be delivered through online learning and home tutoring, not only through pupil referral units. iCan Tutoring provides exactly this.
What we offer
We deliver one-to-one and small-group online tuition in English, Maths, and Science across KS2 to KS4, provided by qualified teachers and built around our specialist SEND methodology, the iCan Approach. Our provision is suitable for children with health needs, emotionally based school avoidance, those awaiting reintegration, and those whose education is named in an EHCP under EOTAS arrangements.
Why iCan is straightforward to commission
We hold enhanced DBS clearance, Level 3 safeguarding, £1M professional indemnity and £10M employers’ liability insurance, and full ICO registration. We are listed on the Bloom procurement framework, which means we can be commissioned quickly when a placement is needed at short notice.
If your authority needs reliable online provision to meet its Section 19 obligations, contact us at schools@icantutoring.com and we will respond within one working day.

Our Services for Schools
EOTAS / Alternative Provision
For students with EHCPs who are unable to access a school setting, we provide bespoke education packages delivered by specialist tutors. Sessions are aligned to the young person's EHCP targets and cover core curriculum subjects alongside social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) support.
Targeted Intervention
Short-term, focused tutoring programmes to close specific attainment gaps. Our structured 6-8 week programmes (such as our Reading Recovery and GCSE Rescue courses) are designed to deliver measurable progress in a defined timeframe.
SEN Tuition for Referred Students
One-to-one or small group tutoring for students referred by SENCOs or inclusion teams. We work in partnership with schools to ensure our sessions complement in-school provision and support the student's overall learning plan.
Group Intervention
Small group sessions (3-6 students) for schools needing targeted support for cohorts of underperforming or SEN-identified students. Groups are matched by need and ability for maximum impact.
Case Study
From Private Tuition to School-Funded Provision
One of our students was referred to us privately by a parent who needed specialist English support for their child. The student had additional learning needs and was struggling to access the curriculum at school. After consistent progress with iCan Tutoring, the student's school recognised the impact and took over funding directly, increasing the provision to 4.5 hours per week at our specialist rate. This is the kind of partnership we build: delivering results so clear that schools invest in continuing them.
